International Writers’ Workshop 2027 in Hong Kong

Quick intro

Applications are open for the 2027 International Writers’ Workshop Writers-in-Residence Programme at Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong. The residency will run from 26 February 2027 to 25 March 2027 and will culminate in the 2027 IWW Literary Festival with the theme “Inheritance.” The programme invites writers from outside Hong Kong to spend four weeks on campus, interact with students, staff, writers, and the public, and participate in literary activities. The deadline is 14 August 2026.

Objectives

The IWW was founded in 2004 and has hosted more than 150 writers from over 60 countries. Its objectives are to encourage creative writing and literary discussion at the university level, enrich Hong Kong’s cultural life, and inspire writers from around the world through exposure to Hong Kong life and culture.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

• Have at least one literary book published by a press
• Not rely on a self-published book for eligibility
• Currently reside outside Hong Kong
• Have functional command of English or Chinese, including Mandarin or Cantonese

Required documents

Applicants must submit:

• One-page single-spaced Artist’s Statement in English or Chinese
• If the Artist’s Statement is in Chinese, one English paragraph summary is also required
• 10–12 pages of recent work
• Work may include creative nonfiction, digital writing, drama, fiction, graphic forms, libretti, or poetry
• English or Chinese translation if the original work is not in English or Chinese
• CV or résumé
• Contact information and email addresses of two referees
• All materials in 12-point type with 1-inch margins
